Community Projects

Helping Hands

Our Helping Hands Committee provides quilts primarily to the Peterborough Crossroads Shelter. The Committee has also provided quilts to Palliative Care At PRHC for non-cancer patients, Cameron House and YES (Youth Emergency Shelter), ROC (Rural Outreach Committee) and other great organizations.

Kits may be picked up at our monthly guild meeting.

Many of our Guild members donate finished tops to be quilted or pick up a quilt to be bound.

Helping Hands also takes donations of good quality quilting cotton, or finished orphan blocks.

Please join them and help however you can.

In October of 2023, Peggy Fillier, Chairperson of Kawartha Quiltmakers’ Guild’s Helping Hands Committee delivered 50 quilts to the E. Fry Society (Peterborough).  These quilts were given in support of the Tiny Homes Bridges Project on Wolfe Street.

Meals on Wheels

A big thank you to Theresia for continuing to collect and deliver placemats made by our members.  The placemats are delivered to Meals on Wheels in December in the hopes that a little cheer is provided to the recipients of the Meals on Wheels program.  Guild members made 168 placemats in 2023 which were delivered to the local Meals on Wheels office.

Quilters Stand for Ukraine

A project presented at one of our meetings was to ask Guild Members if they were interested in participating in making blocks that could be made into toddler and/or lap quilts to be donated to a local charity to give to Ukrainian families who will be coming to Peterborough.  The Guild Members, as always, stepped up to support this project and made many blocks which were made into 10 quilts, a wall hanging and a pillow.

Ukraine

The New Canadian Centre was very appreciative of our contribution of making quilts for the Ukrainian newcomers. Please see their posting of our contribution and pictures of recipients here:

Quilts for Australia

Another initiative was presented at one of our meetings in support of the Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild in Australia who were requesting quilt blocks to be sent to them so that they could make quilts to distribute to citizens that were affected by the bush fires. Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild who in turn will turn blocks into quilts.  Our guild members  took up the challenge and 44 blocks were made and shipped to the Quilt Guild in Australia.
